What independent restaurants actually pay for online ordering

We checked 2,094 independent restaurants β€” across Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade in Florida, and seven New York counties from Westchester to Suffolk β€” to see which ordering platform each one runs, read straight off their own websites. The pattern was the same in both states. Here is what we found, and what those platforms really cost.

56%
of the restaurants we checked can't take an order through their own website
902 of the 1,600 sites we could reach have a working website with no way to order from it β€” 56% in Florida, 57% in New York.

Method: independent restaurants sourced from OpenStreetMap, then each site fetched and checked for the ordering platform's own embed code. Chains excluded. 494 of the 2,094 sites did not respond and are left out of the percentages rather than guessed at. β€œEverything else” covers Owner.com, Popmenu, Olo, GloriaFood, SpotOn, Clover, ChowNow and Grubhub.

What it costs on a $10,000 month

Published rates only, applied to $10,000 of online sales. Where a company does not publish its pricing, we say so β€” that is worth knowing too.

The part worth reading twice

Owner.com's own pricing page states a 5% order support fee charged to the customer on both plans. So β€œno restaurant fees” means no fee to the restaurant β€” the 5% does not disappear, it moves onto your diner's bill. On a $10,000 month that is about $500 taken out of the transaction, just not from your side of it.

That is the same move the delivery apps make. We think it is worth naming, because a fee your customer pays is still a fee attached to your name.

Real layouts, sample data — we don't put our customers' details on a marketing page.

Two things we will tell you on the call

If you need a native app in the App Store under your own name, Owner.com builds one and we do not β€” we build a fast mobile storefront instead. And if you already run Toast's POS, its ordering is already wired to your kitchen, which is worth something real.

Everything else on this page we will stand behind. You get a direct line to the people who built it, in West Palm Beach β€” not a ticket queue.
